Rajasthan NEET Bluetooth Impersonation Cheating Case

On May 5, 2025, during the NEET undergraduate medical entrance exam, Rajasthan Police uncovered an elaborate Bluetooth-based cheating racket. The syndicate equipped multiple candidates with micro earpieces and concealed pinhole cameras. Impersonators posing as examinees transmitted images of question papers to outside solvers, who then fed answers back through hidden Bluetooth devices. Raids across Ajmer and Jaipur led to the arrest of several individuals, including main facilitator Rameshwar Lal, candidate Pooja Sharma, and technical operator Ravi Kumar. Authorities seized sophisticated spy gear, mobile phones, and cash. The National Testing Agency lodged the formal complaint, triggering a probe that later drew in the Central Bureau of Investigation. The case exposed glaring security lapses in one of India's most competitive exams.

The case is currently under trial. Multiple accused face charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and violations of the newly enacted anti-paper leak law. Several defendants remain in judicial custody, while a few have been granted conditional bail. The Central Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the larger pan-India network. No final conviction has been delivered yet.

The central dispute revolves around the failure of exam security protocols that allowed miniature Bluetooth devices and proxy candidates to bypass frisking and jammers. Legal arguments concentrate on the extent of the organized crime network, whether the breach was confined to Rajasthan or indicative of a nationwide leak, and the liability of the exam-conducting National Testing Agency under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

The scandal severely eroded public trust in the fairness of India's medical entrance system. It sparked nationwide student protests demanding a re-examination and transparency. The government responded by mandating biometric verification, upgraded radio-frequency jammers, and stricter frisking at all future NEET centers.
