Odisha Gopalpur Beach College Student Gang Rape Case

On March 1, 2025, a 19-year-old female college student was gang-raped by a group of men at Gopalpur Beach in Ganjam district, Odisha, India. The victim and her male companion were attacked late in the evening; the friend was subdued and tied up, while the woman was dragged to a secluded area and assaulted by multiple assailants. Following massive public outrage and protests, Odisha Police arrested seven suspects, two of whom were minors. The case was registered under Section 376D (gang rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The brutality of the crime, occurring at a popular tourist destination, triggered national condemnation and urgent calls for swift justice.

Seven accused individuals, including two minors, have been arrested and charged. A charge-sheet has been filed, and the trial is currently in progress at a fast-track court in Ganjam. A final verdict is pending.
