During the Gaozong era of the Tang Dynasty in the Western Regions, a noble family's son sought a scapegoat after a crime, dragging an innocent debtor into a murderous silk loan dispute. No one noticed a small Sogdian merchant's secretary whose vengeful flame burned from the lowest rungs, eventually consuming all the noble schemes.
