Novel Summary
In the sweltering summer of 1987, in the pine-barren town of Claremont, Georgia, a decorated Vietnam veteran is found dead in his antebellum mansion—the same night a blind retired judge, the sole visitor, sat in the parlor. Decades later, a federal lawsuit over withheld combat pensions unearths a sealed deposition that contradicts every official record. As the case reaches the Supreme Court, the blind man's taped testimony—relying only on sound, scent, and touch—emerges as the final testament. But time has bleached the physical evidence, not the terror that still breathes in that dark house.
