Blackout Requiem

In the rust-belt city of Ironbrook, ex-con Ethan Cross walks free after a decade for a crime he didn't commit, his legal appeals crushed by the three-strikes rule in a case mirroring Lomax v. Ortiz-Marquez. Desperate for a clean slate, he is lured into a shadowy hacktivist cell by the anonymous puppeteer known only as Cipher. Their weapon: the city's smart-grid and water systems. When a cascading blackout drowns a housing project, Ethan realizes the line between digital protest and remote murder has vanished. As bodies pile up without a trace of physical contact, he must unmask Cipher before a final, catastrophic kill-switch plunges five million people into darkness.
