Beneath the Mask

In the Republic of Kintu, an explosion at the Gulu Armaments Complex kills eight workers in a blast officially blamed on faulty equipment. Forensic pathologist Dr. Amara Diallo performs the autopsies and discovers a hunting bullet lodged in one victim's brain. The dead man was murdered before the fire was set. Her scalpel peels back layer after layer of corruption, leading to Chief Okello, a revered philanthropist whose orphanage is a front for an exclusive human hunting ground. Desperate street kid Kofi, seeking food, stumbles into Okello's estate and becomes the next quarry. As Amara follows the evidence the powerful want buried, Kofi must survive a night in the forest where the rich hunt the poor for sport. Death, stripped of all pretense, becomes the only honest narrator.
