Carnival of God's Shadows

In the fictional European Republic of Valdoria, a disgraced ex-prosecutor is drawn back into a decade-old nightmare after the annual Carnival of Port Cedre. During the 2009 festivities, a prominent reformer was murdered in what authorities called a politically motivated act. Now, fragmented evidence suggests the killing was not the work of a lone fanatic but a collective ritual performed by masked revellers—a descent into a shared, demonic awakening that the official investigation deliberately buried. As Elias Korda pieces together the truth, he discovers that every criminal profile drawn from the massacre tries to sketch the contours of a shadow God left behind, and that the line between justice and institutional evil is as thin as a Carnival mask. Inspired by the legal architecture of McDonough v. Smith, the story traces Korda’s fight to reset the statute of limitations on his own life and expose a conspiracy where the collective unconscious itself became the weapon.
