The Ashen Double

In the rust-choked port of Ashenford, private eye Caleb Voss is hired to shadow a homeless prophetess fighting a sleeping ban. A second shadow, reeking of burnt paper, begins to stalk Voss himself. Their blind-man’s-bluff through alleys and sewers converges in a locked council chamber, where the detective learns that the city’s lethal blunder had no mastermind—only a sticky typewriter key and a clerk’s doze, fusing into a crime so perfect it was never a crime at all.
