Followed by Shadows

In the Union of Columbia, private detective Victor Kane is hired to investigate the questionable death of Howard Mather, a plaintiff in a landmark tribal land case. As Kane trails a shadowy lobbyist through a capital choked with secrets, he discovers he is himself being stalked by an enigmatic figure known only as the Shadow. Their inevitable deadlock reveals that the so-called perfect crime was never a masterpiece of conspiracy, but merely the accidental offspring of luck and institutional dullness.
